I must admit, the ME1 isn't the worse gadget I've used but there is room for improvement, however I haven't played around with the guts and there may be posts out there that answer some of my annoyances, let me begin...

1) Disappointed that you can't copy files over Ethernet, it's a pain in the ass having to drag my TV Cabinet out everytime I want to copy files onto the device just to get to the USB ports on the back and then having to disconnect the USB lead to use the Media Center again... I have read that that there is FTP software that allows for file transfer between the PC and ME1?

2) ME1 Remote Control Infra-Red doesn't respond too well, I have also read there are alternative remote Controls which can be used - my question is why should we have to replace the remote control for an alternative, is there another work around?

3) As already posted in another thread - when ripping vob files from my original DVD collection for backup purposes. I've noticed that the aspect ratio is screwed up when the files are playing through the ME1. The original DVD is recorded in 16:9, however when transferred to the ME1, it only plays in 4:3. I know the file(s) is ok because I've copied to a blank DVD and it plays 16:9 as it should. Any ideas?

I only purchased the ME1 a couple of months ago so I'm not sure if it has the latest firmware on it and if the firmware will resolve any of these issues, particularly point 3....

Cheers...

I just put a usb extension in so the connector comes round to the front.

.

You can install the samba add on as mentioned in the samba thread, you can then view the ME1 as a network icon from any PC

The remote works fine, it does have a tight angle thats true, but otherwise its fine, not sure what your sources are there.

Nope sorry not a clue about this, i use a DVD player to watch DVD's, why rip them, you lose all the add on features such as angles subtitles and sound quality ,could it be the way your ripping the files ?

I doubt it as you dont have any issues that i can see, in fact the new firmware does very little about anything other that offer NTFS support and some new menus.

l have an xtreamer and it has the same problems . ie usb at the back and remote isnt great and its 60 quid more , does work on network with windows 7 where this dosnt ..

l use a network alot so went back to vista and it works fine , no need for samba

cant say lm a great fan of the menu for pickin films .. takes an age , would be great if u can just page down and pick your file without that preview screen .. that slows it all down

You can page down & up using the >>¦ & ¦<< keys, but yes the preview is annoying as is the checking connection speed for the network which pops up a bit too often when trawling through the movie list (I stream from my PC over a Homeplaug network).

I have speeded up the process somewhat by placing genres of films in subfolders so no preview.

You could do this with every movie so scrolling through the list would not trigger a preview........ Might try that when I get home. :|

Since I've managed to copy the newer firmware to the ME1 device, it gives you the option to disable the Preview when scrolling through the collection of movies... Must admit the preview function was starting to annoy me also after a while...
Not sure if the Xtreamer is similar but it may be worth keeping an eye out for new firmware releases...
Best if luck!! :-)

Hey that's a Dutch interface from the HWI guys

Main difference between the Xtreamer and the ME1 is the chipset so I don't think that RealTek is happy to give a old chipset the new interface ;)

The best thing about the ME1 is its playaboutability ( i just made that up), it really is hard to break it so just mess with it and find out.
