I have been humming - and - hahing for several weeks, whether or not to buy an Emprex Multimedia recorder.

My hangup is that I still haven't worked out if the device (or any other Emprex multimedia drive enclosure) can be programmed to record TV shows, so that I can ditch my VCR, or do you have to be there when the programme starts and finishes, in order to press the record/stop buttons.

Mebbe I'm just dumb - or mebbe the specification is unclear: either way, I'm still in doubt.

Help me out, someone, wontcha?

Hi

schedule record is an ability of the ME1, i think it was a later firmware though than the one supplied, i tried it once or twice, it has a tendency to over record, which aint a problem as long as i got what i wanted

Thanks for the advice Judslat.

I wonder if anyone else has experience of using the programmed timer recording function of the ME1, and might comment on it?

Any good advice seriously appreciated.

er.... it is a bit flaky. You can setup timed recording sessions and they start ok but mine never stops recording, and won't respond to the remote or the off switch. My only option is to power it off, but it does actually save the recording ok.

Bit of a bitch if you want to record another program later on, I haven't tested that yet, maybe I should.

One-touch-recording has similar problems, after a while it stops responding tot he remote tso you have to reboot it./

I should point out that I bought this with a 500gb sata drive pre-installed and have upgraded it to the latest firmware. I never really tested recording properly on the firmware it came with.

choganuk,

Thanks for that - seems pretty clear:

Now I'm wondering if the manufacturers have any plans to address those issues with a firmware revision?

The best thing about the ME1 is its playaboutability ( i just made that up), it really is hard to break it so just mess with it and find out.

its been a while since i used the feature myself, thing is in our house, if you set the cable box to switch over for a program and set the ME1 to record it, you inevitably come home and find one of the kids has decided that your program wasnt as important as the one they wanted to watch and so you end up recording something else.. :x
